Distilled in 2008, this Tormore has been matured in a 1st fill ex-bourbon barrel for 9 years. Juicy, Oak & Vanilla profile.
Nose: Garden-fresh with herbal honey, lemonbalm, cut flowers (lilies and violets) and blades of grass. These aromas are joined by some tart and acidic lemons and juicy ripe grapes. The addition of water adds some hints of nectarines and creamy vanilla to an already very fresh nose. Crisp, clear and defined.
Taste: Still in the garden, but now with afternoon tea being served – fudge, apple cakes and vanilla custard reveal themselves first. Then, tart fruits once more – gooseberries and greengages. Finally, some underlying earthy spices – cumin and nutmeg. Water really pronounces the ex-bourbon flavours here – vanilla, cream cakes, sappy wood and coconut shavings.
Finish: Medium in length, drying and with tingly spices
A solid single cask Tormore that offers fresh and crisp flavours, but likewise takes dilution equally well, where it ably shows off a selection of ex-bourbon-driven flavours. Tasty stuff and ideal for holding onto for a sunny summer afternoon - which, here in the UK, we may get at least five of in 2018.
