Youthful Tormore distilled in May of 2009 and matured in a 1st fill ex-bourbon barrel for 8 years. Sweet, Fruity & Mellow profile.
Nose: Highly patisserie. Pronounced butterscotch and bakery aromas (croissants, puff pastry and a variety of baked buttery treats) are joined by foam bananas, a touch of vanilla and a light grassy/earthiness. Water adds some notes of freshly cut flowers and heightens the oils and butters further.
Taste: Bittersweet. Freshly brewed tea and cut herbs mingle with fizzy homemade lemonade, tart lemons and overripe bananas. There’s some sugary sweetness here from toffee and caramel – this is tempered by bitter and slightly astringent oak. The addition of water really brings out the banana flavours further.
Finish: Medium in length, slightly astringent, fruity, but a touch sour.
A well-chosen bottle name for this Tormore, which brings both bananas and a raft of bakery flavours to the table. It’s a touch hot around the edges and the astringency is fairly high, but overall this works quite nicely.
