Over to Speyside and Miltonduff. This 10 year old was distilled back in Feburary 2007 and matured in a 2nd fill ex-bourbon hogshead. Juicy, Oak & Vanilla profile.
Nose: Fresh as a summer breeze. Crisp laundry and cotton sheets are joined by lime juice, granite minerality and honey dew melon. Water adds some floral elements – tulips and fresh mowed lawns. Straight-forward, but successful.
Taste: Continuing the fresh theme, but now at a picnic – strawberry and raspberry yoghurt dolloped onto Special K cereal. Honey provides sweetness which is amplified by milk chocolate sauce. Again there’s minerality here – a slight chalkiness. Water introduces fudge pudding, dry oakiness and damp soils and mosses.
Finish: Medium in length with cotton, reeds and a touch of salinity.
Whilst this Miltonduff might be one of the most simplistic of the June 2018 outturn, it’s also one of the more successful bottlings. Clean, crisp and summery – an ideal opener.
