Longmorn is always worth looking at - this Society expression comes in at 12 year of age and drawn from a 1st fill ex-bourbon barrel.
Nose: Opening with highly aromatic spiced apricots – cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamon – before heading ‘cake-wards’ with sponge fingers, gingerbread and honey spread over toast. Additional nuances follow with quince, pink wafer biscuits and hessian. Reduction offers an unexpected sherbet zing alongside crunchy cereals, light toffee and pancake batter.
Taste: Toffee apples join toasted cereals drizzled in honey, whilst clove and nutmeg liven a foamy latte coffee. The development brings tangerine and shaved chocolate together with cinnamon sticks. The addition of water softens things up nicely with zingy orchard and stone fruits alongside crisp toffee and white pepper.
Finish: Medium with orange gel, cask chat and a bunch of slapped mint leaves.
This Society Longmore drinks well ‘as is’, but it offers more of its naturally fruity distillate style when reduced by a few degrees. Either way, solid stuff.
