Back to where it all began with another ex-bourbon Glenfarclas. This one a 9 year old drawn from a 1st fill barrel.
Nose: Lemon posset and gooseberry fool sit with nougat and sure, meringue as the bottle name suggests. Rich Tea biscuits join peach jelly whilst griddled waffles sit with vanilla crème patisserie. Dilution expresses sugar dusted shortbread alongside burnt cream and a selection of jellied fruits.
Taste: A syrupy fruit salad of peach, pineapple and cider apples is sprinkled with both sugar and pepper in equal measure. Whipped Chantilly cream joins yoghurt and fresh popcorn. Water reveals fruit teas and cinnamon with a light chilli hit.
Finish: Medium in length with syrupy stone fruits joining crackers and fading baking spices.
A little straight and narrow on the palate, but all is present and correct in this fruit vs. cream vs. cask combination. Arguably better composed at 58.5% – but it sips nicely at a variety of strengths.
