Those of you who start your day with quick check of the latest whisky news and reviews are probably used to seeing a diverse selection of features and opinions. Today you might find things are a little more focused – in particular on the newly released Singleton of Dufftown Malt Master’s Selection. The Dramble along with some 30 other writers, bloggers and vbloggers are taking part in a whisky ‘flash blog’, organised by Steve Rush of The Whisky Wire – effectively this means, we’ll all be posting up our reviews and tasting notes simultaneously.
Another James MacArthur Fine Malt Selection whisky in the form of a 1978 17 year old Dufftown. MacArthur have bottled six Dufftown whiskies to date – all of them hailing from the 1978 vintage year. This one is the oldest, but, not the strongest, despite the pokey ABV of 58.5%.
Dufftown was bottled fairly infrequently by the Society until last year – since then we’ve had five new bottlings – all just a shy under 10 years of age. This example has spent its life in a 2nd fill ex-bourbon barrel.
We commence this month’s outturn review with a trip over to Dufftown for a 10 year old drawn from a 2nd fill ex-bourbon barrel.
