Over to Dailuaine for a 10 year old drawn from a 1st fill ex-bourbon barrel. Spicy and Sweet profile.
Nose: A touch on the shy side expressing poached pears, honey, creamed butter and digestive biscuits. There’s light spicing here from cinnamon and some interesting herbal spice – saffron. Water doesn’t provide any radical changes in form, but does help express some underlying grassiness and dried hay.
Taste: Surprisingly weighty with a good mouthfeel, the palate takes a more tropical fruit route with pineapple, mango and Seville oranges. Again, biscuits feature – now chocolate-covered digestives. The addition of water adds some very pleasant new flavours – honeycomb, vanilla cream and tangy grapefruit.
Finish: Short to medium with juicy vanilla, grapefruit and chocolate.
A straight-forward, no frills or thrills Dailuaine that ably shows off quality ex-bourbon maturation, whilst allowing the natural weight of the underlying spirit to shine. A good opening dram for a summer evening.
