The label on this nicely aged Cambus seems pretty appropriate right now – the iron foot bridge near to the distillery all covered in snow. Boutique-y have Batch 2 of their 24 year old Cambus waiting behind door number 11 in their 2017 Advent Calendar. Let’s try to warm ourselves up a bit…
Nose: Sweet creamy and woody. Baked apples, honey, marzipan and vanilla custard are joined by light glue, balsawood and melba toast. Fruity and still very lively.
Taste: Strongly vanilla and offering some rewards for long periods of resting. Pears and citrus are joined by buttered popcorn, roasted cereals and some polish. Vanilla is strongly delivered alongside sweet honey, light florals and some nice cask spicing in the form of both salt and pepper. A longer rest and this whisky starts to become increasingly fruity – more tropical flavours, mango, coconut and a hint of pineapple.
Finish: Medium and focussed on vanilla and cereals.
Boutique-y’s 24 year old Cambus offers a solid sweet grain with some nice cask influence. Easy-going and generally gentle, this one benefits from being allowed to rest for a while.
