Off to Auchroisk for a down the line refill ex-bourbon hogshead that has been left alone for 13 years.
Auchroisk meets tawny port cask for a 6 month secondary maturation. Interestingly, were the distillate from a better-known distillery, I daresay this would have sold out in a flash. But in this day and age underappreciated whiskies should certainly be appreciated (albeit quietly). 318 bottles at 54.9% ABV have been produced – you’ll still find some over at The Whisky Exchange for £68.95.
Youthful Auchroisk that’s been matured in a 2nd fill ex-bourbon barrel since September 2010.
One of two rum finishes in this month’s Outturn (a quick sample of 5.76 proving to be all of the high-ester rum and barely any perceptible Auchentoshan – though I have an incline that Phil might think differently). This Auchroisk spent 8 years in ex-bourbon before being moved into a refill Trinidadian rum barrel (which is much more likely to be Angostura than Caroni – especially at the price point). An odd choice which seems to have resulted in an odd whisky. Let’s see…
Our first cask of Society Auchroisk since 2016 – this one an 11 year old from a refill ex-bourbon hogshead. Spicy & Dry profile.
Over to Auchroisk distillery in Keith for another of SMWS’s always interesting ‘not a sherry cask’ Deep, Rich and Dried Fruits offerings. This one was matured in an ex-bourbon hogshead for nine years and then re-racked into a 1st fill re-charred barrique until being bottled as an 11 year old.
12 year old Auchroisk – matured in a refill ex-bourbon hogshead since January 2006. View on SMWS
13 years in 1st fill ex-bourbon and then an additional 2 years in an STR oloroso seasoned barrique for this Auchroisk.
